To continue, I just drafted a 21/54 LG with 2 volatility in the 41st round and 52/52 LDE with 6 volatility in the 40th round.
Luckily I happened to be on for my next pick (42nd round) so I observed what is going on. I drafted a 55/56 SLB with
14 volatility. Currently near the top of my auto board are players including 39/59 WLB with
94 volatility, 40/60 WLB with
90 volatility, and 19/58 SLB with
94 volatility.
This is a concrete example that something is different between the auto generated board, and the player who gets picked. Not only are there players with higher potential ratings on the board
at the same position (outside linebacker, meaning they are weighted the same in terms of draft order), the higher rated players also have significantly higher volatilities.
The system is definitely taking volatility into account when generating the auto board. But the players at the top of the auto board aren't getting drafted...
